Bravo to the craftsperson

Philippe Rodenas,
Regional Grand Prix award winner 2002

SEMA, in order to encourage growth in the arts and crafts, has set up a local, regional and national Grand Prix awards scheme in 3 categories: Contemporary Creation, Furniture and Property Restoration and Conservation, and Traditional arts and crafts.

The purpose of the Grand Prix awards is to recognize the work of craftspeople with top-level skills in their chosen sector.

The Regional Grand Prix award was won by Philippe Rodenas from Cusset for his wonderful inlaid chest of drawers in the Louis 14 style. The award was handed out during the inauguration of the Vichy Regional Arts and Crafts Show by the Regional Prefect and the President of the Regional Council.

This exceptional creation has 24 types of natural wood: Rio walnut rosewood, citron tree, burled tuya, burled amboyna, rosewood, sycamore, and many others; The masterpiece was on display during the Show as eloquent testimony to the vigour of traditional French marquetry, a rare and delicate skill where the intelligence of the hand rivals with the top-notch precision and a sense of aesthetic quality.

Philippe Rodenas, been based in the Vichy region for over 9 years, specializes in the restoration and conservation of antique furniture as set down by the Charter of Venice. He also produces 16th and 17th style furniture, using period technique and process. His current creative zest is leading him towards the creation of more contemporary furniture.
